Duties and Functions

            According to the market economy adopted by the Government, it is tended to private sector and the Department has to perform paying permit under  mines law prescribed in doing prospecting, exploration and production of metals.

            Detail duties and functions are as follows:-

(i)            scrutinizing proposed applications for mineral prospecting, exploration, processing and issue permit under Myanmar mines law.

(ii)           promulgating  necessary amendments  on mines law and rules to be more effective according to the time and condition.

(iii)          carrying out relationship and negotiation with  international mineral sector.

(iv)         making training  to skilled labor and employees assigned in various mining work to be qualified in technology.

(v)          inspecting  on storage, carriage and utilization of petroleum, chemical gas, explosive materials in accord with the existing petroleum  and explosive act in necessary.

(vi)         inspecting and supervising the permitted organizations, companies and associations to comply with the rules prescribed under Myanmar mines and gems law.

(vii)        supervising mineral production and processing to get natural resources with least wastage.

(viii)       scrutinizing preliminary period, operation period, rehabilitation and reclamation of land to minimize the environmental degradation due to mineral production and processing.

(ix)          managing budget allocation and financing of ministry and inspecting financial statement of private and joint venture.

(x)           scrutinizing and reporting for import and export of the Ministry of Mines.
